How to... make a layout: Happy

by - 3/10/2014 12:38:00 PM

Hello! While ago, on my Facebook page, my lovely Scrap365 DT-colleague Sandra asked how do I make all that doodling to my layouts.
Here is the super simple answer and a little making-a-layout-tutorial at the same time.

Hei vaan! Jokin aika sitten, Facebook-sivullani,  ihana Scrap365 DT-kollega Sandra kysyi miten teen tuon kaiken piirtelyn sivuihini.
Tässä vastaus kysymykseen ja samalla pieni näin-sivuni-rakentuu-tutoriaali.

I usually start by selecting a photograph. Sometimes I start by choosing the papers I'm going to use. This time I wanted to try those Heidi Swapp's pastel color papers and I looked for the right picture I've been wanted to scrap. I also collect some embellishments and other I might use. Doilies, vellum...
The idea of using pastel colors came from Scrap Around the World, I'm going to participate to March super-delicious and pink challenge with this layout. I really like this soft an springy feel on the mood board.

Usein aloitan valitsemalla valokuvan. Joskus aloitan valikoimalla paperit. Kakkupaperia, vellumia...
Idea pastillisävyistä ja pehmeästä sivusta tuli maaliskuun superherkullisesta ja pinkistä Scrap Around the World-haasteesta johon tällä sivulla osallistun. Tykkään todella tuosta pehmeästä ja keväisestä tunnelmasta inspiraatiokuvassa.

Now I cut papers and set them right with the photo. This time I'm using Skissedilla sketch, I'm taking part to their March challenge with this layout. I always use sketches as an inspiration, I don't want to follow them too closily. Have to have space to my own design and my own style.
I'm thinking of embellishments, not too exact, but I want to know where everything is about to go. When ready, I use Riikka's learn and take a photo of it to remember what I was planning to do.

Now it's time to make the background. I love this Heidi Swapp paper so much, I don't want cover it completely - I just add some doodling and few drops of white mist. For doodling, I use regular pencil, as soft as I have. I make some circles with my own free hand. Sometimes I use something round (roll of tape, bottle of glue or gesso, anything goes) to make even circles, but not now.
After doodling I add some drops here and there, to make more texture.

Layers, layers. Many wonderful layers now and the photo to the top.

Kerroksia, kerroksia. Paljon ihania paperikerroksia ja kuva siihen päälle.

Decorating. I add the embellishments I planned to use before. Adding something more, and a title too with matching alphas.

Koristelua.

And it's ready!

Ja valmis!
